Who We Are
I'm a fellow New Yorker that realised quality computer service is over priced and hard to find in the area. After starting work in a Corporate IT position dealing with individuals like yourselves, I came to understand that there is a large amount of misinformation when it comes to computers and general computer knowledge.
Understanding peoples frustration on the subject, I decided to start training people on the very basics of computer and internet operations. I then added repair services to the training sessions and found this helped people to understand their computers specific issue and put them in a better position to help themselves the next time a problem arises.
I train you not only to operate a computer that functions properly, I also show you how to perform simple repairs when your computer is not functioning properly.
The number one complaint I hear from most people that wish to use my services is that when their internet goes down, or their mouse doesnt work, they have to spend hours on the phone with technical support, speak to an unfriendly representative, struggle to understand their instructions only to fix the problem 50% of the time. I help eliminate the need for this. I will be your tech support representative for all your computer issues and if the manufacturer or service provider needs to get involved, I'll deal with them for you.

Why is my computer performing so slowly??
By far the most common question is "Why is my computer so SLOW?!". The answer is simple. Something has changed. The cause of a computer that is performingly more slowly than it did before is simply due to something that was added, be it wanted or unwanted programs that are using valuable system resources.
Your computer has a finite amount of hardware resources to distribute to the many different programs you run (ie. AIM, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word). When too many programs are running at a time, your computer doesnt have enough resources for everything to perform as it should. This forces the computer to overextend itself and makes these programs run slowly. The solution in this case is to eliminate or reduce the number of programs running, or to increase available hardware resources with performance enhancing upgrades (Memory, Processor, and Hard Drive). See more HERE!
The other cause is the more harmful type. Your computer slowness may be due to unwanted programs that have been installed without your knowledge. The programs have the general name "Malware". Malware varies by type. The most common are Trojans (programs that disguise themselves as helpful, but are actually harmful), Spyware and, Viruses. Malware is a more difficult issue to resolve because the creators of these programs hide them within vital areas of your computer and often times they spread, infecting files that you may need to operate your comptuer normally. Many people think that when you have a virus, you will lose all your files and valuable information. This is usually not the case. In most cases, files can be backed up and saved before the virus is removed from the system. This is generally not an expensive fix either. See more HERE!

I have a virus, what now!?
If you suspect you have a virus, there are things you can do to prevent it from getting worse before you can get it removed. Follow these basic guidlines and it should make your repair less time consuming and costly.
Most types of Malware present themselves to you one way or another, but usually as unwanted popups or notifications from fake virus removal programs. These types are generally known as 'Trojan Horses'.
Step 1: If you see from a program that you don't recognize, especially one that you have never heard of before, CLOSE IT! Usually they ask you a question like "Would you like to remove the threat found on your computer?" or, "Would you like to scan your PC now?". Yes AND no can be the wrong answer to this question. It's best to look for the "X" in the uppermost right hand corner of the box asking the question. This will close the prompt not allowing the program to spread itself in most cases
Step 2: If you visited a website and notice you only get the pop-ups during or immeditley after visiting the site, STAY OFF THE SITE! The second you see the unwanted pop-up appear on the screen, look to close your browser by hitting the "X" in the uppermost right corner. When I say close the browser, I mean close the pop-up window AND your internet program. Then you can start your internet program again and continue browsing (of course you should stay off that site from now on).
Step 3: After you believe you have been infected, its important NOT to enter ANY personal information into webites. This includes banking information, credit card information, social security information, etc. This is because the virus may be whats called a "keylogger". A "keylogger" records your keystrokes and can send it back to the people that request it. So if you order something online, every single thing you type on your keyboard could potentially be sent to anyone that knows how to request it. If you must log into your email or personal information, try to do it from a different computer, or change your password using a different computer.
Step 4: Run your antivirus program, and I mean YOUR antivirus program. One that you know you have on your computer. IE: Norton, Mcafee, Computer Associates, Panda, TrendMicro etc.
Make certain you know the program was there before you noticed the virus on your computer. When you run this program, hopefully it will find the virus and be able to remove. These programs are not fool proof and not always 100% effective, but they are a good first line of defense. If you antivirus program reports back that the virus has been removed but you still get the unwanted symptoms, or your program reports that it cannot remove the virus, then you must contact a professional.
Follow these simple steps and you should have few viral infections. If you need more assistance, please contact us!
What can I expect from a computer repair?
Before you get your computer repaired, you should know what to expect, right? Computer repairs are not all created equal. It's not always about the repair itself that counts. It's the overall quality of the service that really matters. It is important to know how secure your information will be, and how your device will be handled while not in your care.
For instance, lets say you have some type of malware infection. Malware infections sometimes require multiple passes with many different anti-malware type programs. Many of these programs can cause damage to personal files or important system files or entries during use. Even the experienced technician can inadvertantly remove something vital while tackling a virus infection. So what happens to that important file after it gets unrecoverably removed? In the hands of the right technician, the answer would be "no big deal". The right technician should always make a backup of your system before attempting to fix your issue.
Many (not all) issues take time and other equiptment to properly correct. More time than can usually be alotted by either the client or the technician at any one time. If a technician claims he can cure your problem at your home while you wait, you should be asking a few questions. How long do they anticipate the repair will take? How are they ensuring your files will be safe and recoverable in the case something goes wrong? What is included with the service? These are just a few..
The right man for the job will include other basic services as well at no additional charge. When you take your car in for service at the dealer, when they are done they usually wash it, right? You would be surprised if I told you how many times I have seen a technician open the computer to replace a hard drive and leave what looks to be 10 pounds of dust embedded in all the components. This should ALWAYS be cleaned out with EVERY service. Other things like drive doors, and missing screws should always be taken care of.
Certain things should also be guaranteed. For example, you should get your computer back in the same physical condition as when you let the technician take it. You should also expect your replaced working and non-working parts to be returned to you (unless arranged otherwise before the work is done). When an operating system install or system recovery is required, you should expect that all the software required for your hardware components to function is installed properly.
On the other hand, there are certain things that cannot come with a guarantee. As an example, the invulnerability to viruses after a virus or malware is removed. No program in the world can guarantee that, simply because there are outside factors involved. There are hundreds, perhaps thousand of new viruses being created daily. These programs can only protect against ones they are aware of. It also depends on the browsing and downloading habbits of the client. Your first line of defense from viruses and malware is YOU. The client should be informed and educated as to what to look out for from potentially harmful websites and file types.
Future support is important as well. The availability of the tech to answer questions based on the work that was just done. If you have a question, you should expect the technician to make himself available to clear up any questions that may arise.

It's time for an upgrade, but which do I choose?!
One of the best ways to keep your old computer fresh is to perform periodic upgrades of certain components. The single most recommended upgrade is memory (RAM). You computers memory is used to store information about programs you are using at the time. The more programs you have running, the more memory is required. Newly released programs generally require more memory than the older software that came with your computer. This may cause your computer to perform slowly. Memory upgrades are relatively inexpensive to both purchase and install, and for the money they provide the best, quickest bang for the buck.
The next most popular upgrade is the Hard Drive. This is the device that all your information is stored on. Pictures, music, movies, documents and programs are all kept on the hard drive. With the increased popularity of digital music, videos and digital cameras, hard drive space on your older computer may become scarce rather quickly. Hard drives can be purchased and installed with a fair amount of ease and hard drive prices are very low at the moment. One thing to make sure of, is when contacting a tech for hard drive upgrades, the backup and restore of all your information from old hard drive to new hard drive is included in the quoted price.
Processor upgrades are the least common type of upgrades due to inexpensive computer replacements and the complexity of the upgrade. Most of the time, processor replacement requires mainboard replacement, which then requires memory replacement. It may not stop there. These are almost always more expensive than the two upgrades previously mentioned. In some cases though, the processor may be upgraded without requiring the replacement of these other parts as well.
Whatever upgrade you choose, make sure you find the correct tech to perform the upgrade for you.
